Qualifications
Certified technicians are those technicians who have gone through a training & certification course with ODN Inc. to install and service the ODN Inc. line of fixed satellite backhaul products.
If a technician intends to install and maintain more than five (5) sites, it is recommended that the technician become ODN certified.
Certified technicians will be familiar with the process of commissioning sites and will have appropriate access to ODN’s network management system (NMS). They will also have user permissions to access online spectrum analysis equipment for fine-tuning transmit quality. They will be authorized to install sites without prior verification from ODN. They will be required to provide to ODN pertinent information for the site such as modem serial number, location coordinates, photographs of the completed installation and contact information of the end user.
Non-Certified technicians are those technicians who have experience and competence in VSAT installation but have not been specifically trained by ODN Inc.
Non-Certified technicians will have access to ODN’s Help Desk site at
https://helpdesk.orbitaldata.net On this site there will be documentation templates available for Site Surveys & Installation Assessments. Additionally, informational publications & tech memos regarding site surveys, installation, and servicing of ODN sites can be accessed through the ODN helpdesk knowledge base.
A Site Survey form is provided on the Helpdesk knowledge base as a template for recording of site surveys and is primarily for a technician's record-keeping purposes.
If the technician has specific questions about the viability of an installation plan, completed form as well as supporting photographs can be emailed to support@orbitaldata.net or submitted to our helpdesk for consultation from an ODN technician.
Installation Assessment documents will be submitted by the technician through the site’s ticketing system under the “Site Commissioning” category.
After the antenna, modem & other site equipment is physically installed, the process of fine-tuning & validating the signal quality will be performed by the non-certified technician with the real-time assistance of an ODN NOC technician.
A newly installed site will not be activated until after the process of site validation and ODN receives Install Assessment documentation from the technician submitted via the Help Desk “Site Commissioning” ticket system. After ODN receives and approves the documentation, the site will be activated within two (2) business hours.
If the on-site technician wishes to have this completed immediately, we recommend calling ODN to ensure workload availability to complete site commissioning. If prior arrangements are not met it is possible a follow up trip will be required for fine-tuning of transmit peak.
It should be noted that certified technicians will be able to complete the commissioning process without the assistance of ODN, and therefore can complete installations outside of business hours without prior arrangements being made with ODN.
